Patan Durbar Square

Table of Contents

Situated at the center of the city, this is one of the three Durbar Squares in the Kathmandu Valley, all of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

A Marvel of Newari architecture holding legacy, craft and stories from numerous generations. Square has been a hub of business since the Malla Dynasty.

The square is home to ancient temples, artifacts and old Newari residences. The square is filled with various courtyards and captures the fine skills of newari artisans from the 17th century. 

Swayambhu The Monkey Temple

An ancient religious architecture atop a hill considered the home of Tantrik Energy in the Kathmandu Valley, it is probably the most sacred among Buddhist pilgrimage sites.

The complex consists of a stupa, believed to have self-sprung from a lotus, and a variety of shrines and temples, some dating back to the Licchavi period.

Swayambhu also has a Harati temple, which reflects the peaceful co-existence of hinduism & Buddhism in Nepal.

A Tibetan monastery, museum and library are more recent additions. The stupa has Buddha's all seeing eyes painted on and is one of the most visited pilgrimage in the valley. 

Bhaktapur Durbar Square

The plaza in front of the royal palace of the old Bhaktapur Kingdom. A UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Square is located in the current town of Bhaktapur, also known as Bhadgaon.

The complex is comprised of four distinct squares (Durbar Square, Taumadhi Square, Dattatreya Square and Pottery Square). Pachpanna Jhyale Durbar with their gracious setting and sculptural design, is a balcony of fifty-five windows, considered to be a unique masterpiece of woodcarving.

It is also known as one of the oldest monument present in Nepal. A visit to Bhaktapur takes you back to the 17th century and the glorious dynasty of a rich kingdom. With efforts from the government & NGOs much of the old architecture has been preserved by locals as well. 

Nagarkot

THE GETAWAY WITH SPECTACULAR SUNRISE AND SUNSET VIEWS

Nagarkot is a hill station space perfectly located slightly away from the hustle and bustle of the valley. Considered one of the most scenic spots in Bhaktapur District, it is known for a sunrise view of the Himalayas including Mount Everest as well as other peaks of the Himalayan range of eastern Nepal. Nagarkot also offers a panoramic view of the Kathmandu Valley. It has become a popular hiking destination connected to some of the most scenic routes of hills.

Kathmandu Durbar Square

Also known as Basantapur Durbar Square, this is in front of the old royal palace of the former ith appealing artifacts, Kathmandu Kingdom. With appealing artifacts, rich history and positive aura surrounding the glorious royal courtyard, the durbar square is a popular social hub for Kathmanduites even today. Most of the cultural celebrations with processions known as Jatras, go through this square; and the living goddess Kumari presides in her residence here as well.

Thamel

For more than four decades, Thamel has been a touristic hub serving as the nucleus of Kathmandu's tourism industry. Thamel, a commercial neighbourhood in Kathmandu, is as diverse as the nation itself. Thamel is the fusion of all the cultures that has blended together with the vibe of the capital. Thamel boasts of pubs, bars, guesthouses and is the heart of the night-life that Kathmandu has to offer.

Chandragiri Hill

Sitting atop a hill right near the western gateway to Kathmandu, is a holy temple granting happiness to the residents of the valley. The cable car facility established recently gives a chance for visitors to experience a spiritual journey atop the holy temple of Chandragiri, overlooking the panoramic view of the valley.

Kopan Monastery

Its name comes from the name of the hill on which it was built. Kopan has become especially famous for teaching Buddhism to visiting Western foreigners.

Kopan encompasses two separate institutions: the monastery, atop Kopan Hill, and the nearby Khachoe Ghakyil Ling Nunnery (known as the Kopan Nunnery). The nunnery was established in 1979 by Lama Yeshe to provide spiritual and practical education modeled on curriculum received by the monks. In 2009 the nunnery began raising money to expand its housing and education capacity, which has grown from 4 to 400 in less than 35 years.

Pashupatinath

HINDUISM'S HOLIEST SHIVA SHRINE

A sacred Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Pashupatinath, this temple is considered one of the sacred temples of the Hindu faith. A sprawling collection of temples, ashrams, images and inscriptions raised over the centuries along the banks of the sacred Bagmati river. Beyond the temple lies the sacred ghats where the last rites of hindus are performed. Every day in the evening there is an arati ceremony (oil lamp lighting), and the entire place comes alive with devotees singing bhajans.

Boudhanath

THE LARGEST IN THE WORLD LIVING STUPA

The stupa's massive mandala makes it one of the largest stupas in Nepal. The stupa of Boudhanath dominates the skyline, spreading positive energy and vibes, to all who decide to have a pleasant day in the surroundings. The recent generation has seen the construction of over 50 gompas and a massive growth in the local businesses adapting to the trends of the present.
